Camp Wendy is a Girl Scout Camp in Wallkill, NY, bequeathed to Ulster County Girl Scouts by local philanthropist Marion Borden of Wallkill in 1923. It has historical ties to the founder of Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Low, and was one of the first official Girl Scout camps in the US. During World War II, Wendy served as a Farm Aid Camp and it will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2023. On August 13, 2022, Camp Wendy will celebrate its 40th anniversary of being a Lou Henry Hoover Memorial Sanctuary.
It is a 56 acre camp tucked in the foothills of the Shawangunks with a beautiful 13 acre lake, wooded trails, and unique ecology. Prior to COVID it had year round camping accommodations. It has electricity, low and high ropes courses, a climbing wall, kitchen, large dining hall with beautiful stone fireplace, indoor and outdoor archery accommodations. It is also the home of the GSHH Museum, a resource for program, research, history and more. Of all the local camps, it is unique in the beautiful leantos on a wooded hilltop, a world apart and a special experience for older girls. It has amenities and benefits none of the other local camps do.
